Recently I ran into the issue of getting reCaptcha to work with my AJAX loaded contact page. On a static page the code worked fine but if the content was loaded via AJAX the recaptcha section was never populated. I suspected that because the AJAX was loading a script into the page after page load the script was not able to execute. To google I went and I spent a long time digging through the net to finally find the answer.

I stumbled upon this post by another user who was running into the same problem. I had gone through the same troubleshooting procedure as he had, that is creating a static page with the reCaptcha widget showing but it would not show on my AJAX page. Alas, at the end of his post he doesn’t provide a solution but does give a clue, the reCaptcha AJAX API.

Enter the reCaptcha AJAX API! I didn’t even realize this handy tool exsisted before my search but it ended up being the solution i had hoped for.

Essentially my problem was that because the script was loaded after the page load it was not able to execute. I needed to implement a callback function to get to widget to show after it had been loaded by AJAX.

Apple never ceases to amaze and please my tiny little brain.

A while back Apple released the Magic Trackpad, the answer to all of us who longed for the multitouch and gestures available on the macbook pro but for desktop use.

Ever since I purchased a MacBook (technically I have the non-pro aluminium 13 inch) I loved the multitouch! The seamless transitions from one application to the next, using expose, the ability to easily switch to the desktop, I was in heaven. However, at the time Apple was not making a multitouch input device for their desktop systems. Longing for something to fill the void I turned to Wacom who produced a pen tablet that had multitouch that I also wanted for web design and photo editing. The wacom turned out to be great for photo/web but it’s multitouch is not very useful. It only supports 2 finger multitouch and there is no physical click.

Enter Magic Trackpad. Despite it’s corny name this thing is awesome. It supports full 4 finger multitouch just like the MBP and it has a physical click! I am stoked to use it tonight as my old mouse was giving up the ghost.

multitouch…AWAY!!!

I am selling my Volvo 242 Turbo…or trying to rather. You may have expected only the suit and tie this being my business blog but I am going to take off the sports jacket to share with you the details.

You see, ever since I went through motorcycle safety I have had the itch; I want a motorcycle and I want it bad! Unfortunately I am in a bit of a predicament. Two weeks ago I found a 1989 Honda Transalp located close enough to drive to. This bike is a perfect fit for what I am looking for in a motorcycle. It is a capiable on road vehicle but it also boasts the ability to travel off road. This is something I find very desirable as I would love to explore some of the fire roads around where I live. So again, here we are two weeks ago and there is this bike, sitting within arms reach and I’ve got money in the bank burning a hole in my pocket. The only problem is that although the bike is within driving distance, total travel time one way is over 3 hours and I would have to ride it back home! I will be the first to admit that although I feel confident on a motorcycle driving 3 hours on my first ride outside of a parking lot seems like a stupid idea even to me. So I think about it and I figure that I can bring it home on a trailer. Brilliant! Only there’s another problem, I dont have a trailer. The day comes to an end and the guys sells the bike to another (lucky) guy. Sadness is short-lived however. He informs me that he has another Transalp that he is selling in a few weeks!! Great, this gives me time to get a trailer and be prepped for everything.

Later on I get a trailer from Harbor Freight for $260 out the door. I take it to the DOL and *POP* im out another $50 for registration. There is this expense and that bill slowly sucking my bank account down unbeknownst to me. Finally, Two weeks rolls by and I get an e-mail from the Transalp seller. He has the second bike ready! However this time the price has increased because this bike is nicer than the last and it has fewer miles. He attaches an image to the e-mail showing the bike. Awesome! I am somewhat disappointed that he wants $300 more than last time but this bike is sweet and worth it. AND NOW I HAVE A TRAILER. I’m set…right? Wrong. But being a somewhat problematic individual it doesn’t take long for me to discover a hitch; THIS TIME I DONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY!!!

That was Tuesday. Today I am selling my Volvo 242 Turbo. I’ve wanted to sell this car for a while mostly because I no longer use it as a daily driver (like I had been doing). So I put it up on the old Craigslist and I’ve had some bites. But as of yet no takers. Originally the money from this car was for no specific purpose but now I am hoping this car will be sold soon because then I will have some dough to buy this bike.

Alas, if I am as lucky (or unlucky) as I usually am, my timing will be off again (as in two weeks ago) and I will miss out. Blarg x 1000000.

-UPDATE-

I managed to sell the car pretty quickly. First I looked into a trade for an 1966 Volvo 122s 4 door sedan. It was a “cool” car but it needed a lot of love. Rust holes in the floor, dents, dings and bad paint. I think if it had been in better condition I would have considered it further but staring at that car was like looking at the reflection of mine; It was a project. In and of itself, the car ran and drove around faily well. But to really make it shine required a lot of time, money, and love which I dont have enough of.

In place of a trade, I sold the car to a nice guy who works in the army. The transaction was smooth and he gave me the full price I was asking. The only “odd” thing about it was that he did not like the flat hood that was on the car but preferred the beaked hood. I suppose that the paint was a lot better on the beaked hood. We had met up away from the house so after he decided that he wanted it the two of us went back to my garage and put the old beaked hood back on. I also gave him a b21ft head so that he could either fix it up or play with it. One less piece of metal in my garage. Now on to a motorcycle…
